Bingo Rules

Did you know that bingo is THE most popular game in the world? A sociable, fun and easy-to-play game of chance, it is played by millions of people around the world. All that it requires is the ability to listen and mark down randomly chosen numbers onto a pre-printed card. Once you have completed a pre-determined pattern, simply shout, ‘Bingo!’ to win any number of prizes. Nothing could be easier! As with any other game though, certain rules apply. These are for the benefit of all players, and like the game itself, are easy to follow.

Bingo Rules In A Nutshell:

  • The winning pattern must be verified by either the caller or a ‘spotter’, who will come to your table to check your card.
  • If two or more people call ‘Bingo!’ at the same time, the prize will be split accordingly. Disputes about wins are very rare in Bingo, and should any conflict arise, the Bingo manager will usually have the final say.
  • Each Bingo hall will have its own unique set of rules, and it is a good idea to read through these before the game commences. However, the following rules usually apply to all games, regardless of where they are held.
  • If you play in a recognised gaming hall, or Bingo club, you must be 18 years or older. This is not to say that children are excluded from the game – in fact, Bingo is extremely popular amongst youth worldwide and has even been adapted for use as a teaching aide in some countries, such as in America, where it is used in primary schools to teach literacy (the numbers are replaced with beginning reader words).
  • Don’t bring food and drink from your home or a restaurant into a Bingo hall. At most Bingo establishments, there is usually a place where refreshments, such as soft drinks and alcohol (depending on the establishment’s drinking policy) may be purchased or served.
  • Refrain from entering or exiting the hall once play has started. It distracts other players and may even be openly prohibited by some establishments.
  • Don’t bring friends or family to watch you play. The general rule of thumb is; everyone who attends is regarded as a player, and must have his or her own Bingo cards.
  • Bingo cards may not be reserved.
  • Avoid the temptation to chat to your fellow players while the caller is announcing new numbers. This may be distracting and unwelcome. In between games, go ahead and enjoy yourself. One of the reasons why Bingo is so beloved the world over is its social nature.
  • If you have a matching pattern, call in your win by shouting ‘Bingo!’ as soon as possible. If you wait until the next ball is being announced, you’ll be too late.

If you follow these simple Bingo rules, you’ll eliminate any misunderstandings and conflict and enjoy your game.
